CHICAGO NEWS

Federal prosecutors sought leniency for Pedro and Margarito Flores,  the brothers who are considered the ‘most significant drug traffickers in Chicago’s history.’ The feds requested prison terms of 10 to 16 years because of their “unparalleled” cooperation, which led to the downfall of 54 drug traffickers and helped the U.S. build its case against Sinaloa cartel jefe, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. NATIONAL NEWS

The US has released five Yemeni prisoners from the prison facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. One man was transferred to Estonia and the other four were sent to Oman. The detainees in the latest release all had been cleared for transfer for nearly five years, but couldn’t be sent back to Yemen out of concerns they would join terrorist fighters. [WSJ]

WORLD NEWS

President Francois Hollande of France, speaking at the Arab World Institute, said the country will protect all religions. He said Islam was compatible with democracy and thanked Arabs for their solidarity over terrorism in Paris. [BBC]

SPORTS

The Indianapolis Colts’ linebacker Josh McNary faces one count of rape, one count of criminal confinement and one count of battery according to recent court documents filed. The incident happened early morning on Dec. 1. All eyes will be on the NFL and how they handle this case and if they allow McNary to play this weekend. [USA TODAY]

BUSINESS

Shares of Blackberry was up about 30% as it was announced that Samsung offered the struggling company a buyout. Reuters reported that Samsung recently offered to buy BlackBerry for as much as $7.5 billion (proposed an initial price range of $13.35 to $15.49 per share) and sought its valuable patents. Representatives from the two companies are denying that any meeting happened. [REUTERS]

CELEBRITIES

Another week, another Kim Kardashian nude magazine spread. Love magazine, coming out this week, will feature a Steven Klein shot spread. At this rate, we can all probably, equivocally say we’ve seen all parts of Kim Kardashian. [PAGE SIX]
The nominees of the 87th annual Academy Awards will be announced this morning and you can watch the livestream. Actor Chris Pine, Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, directors Alfonso Cuarón and J.J. Abrams will announce the nominations in two parts. [OSCARS]

FASHION

Maxime Simoëns has parted ways with LVMH. This comes two years after they invested in the designer’s label that was launched in 2009. Simoëns had previously interned at Dior and was the creative director of Leonard for 6 months. Let’s throw his name into the Gucci designer search hat. [VOGUE UK]
