CHICAGO NEWS

Flames, Flames and hot actors, are you ready for the Great Chicago Fire Festival?  Taking place Oct. 4 with “Chicago Fire” stars Jesse Spencer and Taylor Kinney making an appearance. Kinney and Spencer will ignite the festivities – literally – as they light one of 15 massive “Fire Cauldrons” that will be lowered from bridges to watercraft waiting on the Chicago River below. The Great Chicago Fire Festival, celebrating Chicago’s grit, greatness and renewal following the historic Great Chicago Fire of 1871 and begins at 8pm. [SLC INBOX]

Six sexual assaults that occurred over a nine year period have been linked to two Chicago brothers through DNA evidence. Leondo Joseph, 38 and LB Joseph, 28 are charged and held without bail. [NBC NEWS]

As news of the first case of Ebola in the United States begins to spread, officials at the CDC have already started tracing anyone involved with the patient. Though a name of the patient is yet to be released, the man who arrived to Dallas from Liberia 9/20 initially did not show symptoms until September 24, four days after arriving in the U.S. Ebola cannot be spread through the air but only through contact with bodily fluids such as blood, diarrhea and tears. The mayor of Los Angeles area suburb Bell Gardens, Daniel Crespo, who was shot in the chest by his wife in an apparent domestic dispute, was pronounced dead at the hospital. [CNN]

WORLD NEWS

“This country would be a different world today if he had pulled out his gun” words from Jason Chaffetz (R), Utah during the questioning of Secret Service Director Julia Pierson. It turns out just last month, a convicted felon (three convictions for assault and battery) who was carrying a gun which wasn’t cleared by the secret service, was riding in the same elevator as president Obama during his trip to Atlanta, Georgia for CDC briefing on ebola. The private security officer was taking pictures and videos of the president in the elevator. [REUTERS]

SPORTS

“The most exhilarating postseason victory in franchise history” as the Kansas City Royals baseball team beat the Oakland A’s 9-8 in the 12th inning. “They were down by four runs in the eighth inning, facing one of the greatest postseason pitchers of all-time in Jon Lester, and still won.” The will now face the Los Angeles Angels for a best of five game. BUSINESS

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has charged two men with insider trading after they learned that hedge fund manager Bill Ackman was planning to announce a $1 billion bet against Herbalife. Filip Szymik, 28, learned about Ackman’s plans to announce his short position from his roommate who worked at Ackman’s fund, Pershing Square Management. He then allegedly tipped off Jordan Peixoto, 30, of Toronto, who worked at the time as an analyst in the New York offices of Deloitte & Touche.[DAILY FINANCE]

CELEBRITIES

Taylor Swift is a Vogue cover girl,  the British edition. The November issue has the singer talking “about her new album, her style evolution, and turning her back on dating – and Nashville – as she comes of age.” [VOGUE UK]

FASHION

• German sportswear brand Adidas will return as much as 1.5 billion euros, or about $1.9 billion, to shareholders over the next three years, primarily by buying back its shares. The company’s stock has been under pressure in recent months as it has faced stiff competition from Nike and other rivals. [NY TIMES]
