CLIMATE CHANGE SUMMIT
• With 150 heads of state from across the globe including United States President Obama who admitted the country is at least partly to blame for the life-threatening damage that environmental change has wrought, the global summit on climate change will begin today in Paris and last until Dec. 11 to discuss the future of the planet and “agree on legally binding reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.” At the Paris Climate Change Conference dubbed #COP21, most of these leaders will leave Paris within days, leaving behind ministers who will negotiate an accord over the next two weeks that would for the first time commit almost every country to limiting its emissions. The Breakthrough Energy Coalition, a group of business and philanthropy leaders led by Bill Gates with a combined total of $350 billion in private wealth, have pledged to invest in moving clean-energy technologies from laboratories to the marketplace. Ahead of the conference, peaceful protesters placed rows of shoes and name tags. [NY TIMES, CNN]
