You may have seen the instagram posts yesterday about calling a number to support the filibuster, and after more that 15 hours on the senate floor talking about gun control, the GOP will hold votes on restricting firearms, days after the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history. • The rent is doo d@mn high Chicago! At least according to a new study released by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. According to the study, in Chicago, 48% of people said they were devoting more than 30% of their income to rent or a mortgage. In the suburbs, 40% stretched beyond the 30 percent limit. According to the research, 11% of households in Chicago had cut back on healthy food, and 12% had made cuts in health care to afford housing. Another 11% moved to less safe areas. While the problem of finding affordable housing is most acute among people ages 18-34, African-Americans and households with incomes under $40,000, 49% of those in households with incomes over $75,000 said “it’s challenging to find affordable housing in my area.”
• The sex scandal at the Oakland (CA) Police department has ensnared another figure as the interim police chief Ben Fairow was abruptly removed after six days on the job. A little background: A sex worker who goes by ‘Celeste Guap’ had sex with at least 24 members of the police department some when she was a 16-year-old minor. She shared texts Oakland officers sent her warning her about undercover operations while she was working as a prostitute, with local news station. Out of the two dozen officers she had sex with, she says she slept with three of them when she was a minor and that all three of those worked at Oakland Police Department. The chief of police Sean Whent resigned last Thursday. The controversy linking police officers to Celeste Guap came to light after Officer Brendan O’Brien committed suicide in September 2015. O’Brien left a suicide note that indicated he and four other officers were involved in inappropriate relationships with a young prostitute, Girl needs to write a book.

• Swiftly moving on or is she? Pictures recently surfaced of singer Taylor Swift who just broke up with Calvin Harris, making out with actor Tom Hiddleston. They were spotted heating up the dancefloor at last month’s Met Gala. Are they Loki (ha!) dating or is it staged? Time will tell.
• Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network hosted the premiere of their new scripted drama series Greenleaf yesterday in Los Angeles and guess who was interviewing the medial mogul and cast members? Chicago’s own Luvvie Ajayi aka AwesomelyLuvvie. This was a day after she moderated and spoke on a panel at the Whitehouse’s United States of Women Summit.

• Rag and Bone’s co-founder, David Neville is stepping down from his day-to-day responsibilities as co-CEO making Marcus Wainwright the company’s sole CEO. Speaking to Business of Fashion, Neville who will remain on the company’s board of directors and will still be one it its majority shareholders said, “I’m looking at investing in some fashion brands in the same way Andrew (Rosen) did with us all those years ago.”
