Hillary Clinton has clinched enough delegates to secure the Democratic presidential nomination and Bernie burners are not happy. This comes ahead of today’s final primary races including California. This nomination is history making because Clinton would be the first woman to ever be the presidential candidate of a major political party in the country’s history but technically, under Democratic National Committee rules, most delegates to the party’s July 25-28 convention are awarded by popular votes in state-by-state elections. The delegate count also includes “superdelegates” – party leaders and elected senators, members of Congress and governors – who can change their mind at any time. For that reason, the DNC has echoed the Sanders campaign, saying the superdelegates should not be counted until they actually vote at the Philadelphia convention.  Read more

• “That is a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action out of his 20 plus years of life.” This was excerpted from a letter former Stanford student and rapist Brock Turner’s father submitted for the judges’ sentencing consideration. After pictures of Turner’s “clean cut” image circulated, the press requested his actual mugshot which was eventually released yesterday afternoon. According to court records, Turner was convicted in March of 3 felony counts: the intent to commit rape of an intoxicated/unconscious person, penetration of an intoxicated person and penetration of an unconscious person, the rape took place at a fraternity party in January 2015. Because he was a star Stanford swimmer and let’s not forget the possibility of a hint of priviledge, Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Aaron Persky rejected a lengthy prison sentence recommendation and gave him a lenient 6 months. There is currently a petition that has garnered over 191,000 signatures to recall the judge, who said that a stiffer sentence would have a “severe impact” on Turner. CNN’s Ashleigh Banfield read the victims letter to her attacker on the air. Imagine if the victim was your daughter, what kind of message does a sentence send and say about how certain people view rape?

Redstone’s National Amusements Inc., the controlling shareholder of Viacom, on Monday amended their corporate bylaws to effectively make it more difficult for Viacom Inc. to sell a stake in movie studio Paramount Pictures. Any sale of all or part of Paramount must now have the unanimous approval of Viacom’s board of directors.
