• Yesterday Martin Shkreli became “Undesirable No.1” after reports that his company, Turing Pharmaceutical, increased the price of Daraprim from $13.50 to $750 seemingly overnight, last month. When news of that hit the wire, presidential candidate Hilary Clinton called the practice of price gouging in the drug market ridiculous in a tweet and layed out a plan to cap out of pocket payments for prescription drugs month. Now another drug by Rodelis Therapeutics, cycloserine, used to treat multi drug resistant Tuberculosis, that was set to increase its price overnight (from $500 for 50 capsules to $10,800) has been rescinded. This signals a new business strategy where old drugs used to treat rare diseases are acquired then turned into specialty drugs. [NY TIMES]
