• Following the announcement that Darren Wilson, the Ferguson officer who shot an unarmed Michael Brown, will not be indicted by a grand jury, peaceful rallies and protests were held all over the country. Violence did erupt in Ferguson as several police cars were burned; buildings, including a Walgreens, a meat market and a storage facility, were on fire, and looting was reported in several businesses. • Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel has resigned amid sharp criticism over President Obama’s strategy against Islamic State. He is the third defense chief to leave office during President Barack Obama‘s administration. [WSJ]
WORLD NEWS
• 15 people were killed and seven people were injured when an eight-story building in the Cairo western suburb of Matariya collapsed overnight. Building collapses happen regularly in Egypt due to illegal construction, and poor enforcement of regulations. [BBC]

• Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel’s entourage was invovled in a brawl with fans at his apartment complex. According to a police report, Chris Gonos told police he was assaulted by “Johnny Football and his entourage.” [SF GATE]
• Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton on wining his second Formula 1 drivers’ world championship at season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He is the first British driver in more than 40 years to win the Formula One drivers’ championship twice. [THE GUARDIAN]

• Honda Motor failed to notify U.S. safety regulators of 1,729 claims of injuries and deaths related to accidents in its vehicles since 2003. Honda and Japanese supplier Takata Corp have been at the center of investigations of defects in Takata air bags. [REUTERS]
