Chef Laura Martinez, a protege of the late Charlie Trotter, will open her restaurant La Diosa, Spanish for “the goddess” on Friday. The restaurant is located at 2308 N. Clark St with the menu described as Mexican comfort food with French touches. [DNA INFO CHICAGO]

Whole Foods Lakeview may be moving to bigger digs. They are considering leaving their current space at 3300 N. Ashland Ave. which is only 50,100-square-foot and opening a new store at 3201 N. Ashland which could cover 70,000 square feet or more reports Crains. [CRAINS CHICAGO]


The DC Metro, around 3:30 p.m. Monday, suffered an electrical malfunction that filled the subway station with smoke, leaving one woman dead and several others to recover in the hospital. This is the first fatality on Washington’s Metro system since a 2009 crash that killed eight passengers and a train operator. The cause of the arcing, which occurs when electricity from the third rail comes into contact with another substance that conducts electricity such as water, was not yet known. [WASHINGTON POST]

It ain’t about the money! ok maybe just a little. Sue Ann Arnall, ex-wife of oil tycoon Harold Hamm, is back in the news and she’s moving forward with her divorce appeal even after cashing one of the largest US divorce settlement in history. Reuters reports she issued a statement through her lawyers “I will not dismiss my appeal and do not feel that my right to appeal should be denied because I have accepted, in the interim, a small portion of the estate that we built over more than two decades.” [REUTERS]


Authorities are trying to figure out what contaminated the batch of Phombe, a homemade alcoholic drink, that has poisoned so many people in the village of Chitima in Mozambique. It is being reported that 69 people are dead and many more began to arrive with diarrhea and other muscle aches. Elsewhere, in India, a batch of bootleg liquor has killed at least 28 people. Police have arrested two men who they suspect made the brew with methanol, a chemical used in industrial items such as fuel and antifreeze. Deaths from drinking moonshine are common in India. [CNN]


The first College Football playoff took place last night at AT&T stadium in Dallas and THE Ohio State Buckeyes beat the Oregon Ducks 42-20 making them the undisputed National Champions. Led by Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and a stellar offense and defense including quarterback Cordell Jones (this was his 3rd college football game0, running back Ezekiel Elliot who rushed for 246 yards(very reminiscent of Jerome Bettis), Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith put it best when he said this about coach Meyer, “I don’t think anyone knew he could mount this many wins and ultimately win a national championship this fast, he’s just done a masterful job.” [USA TODAY]


Instacart, the three-year-old grocery delivery startup, just announced it’s raised $220 million in funding round led by the venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, reports Bloomberg. Instacart’s previous backers includes Andreessen Horowitz, Khosla Ventures, and Sequoia Capital and the company is now being valued at $2 billion. Instacart relies on an army independent contractors with smartphones, who scour store shelves and transport goods to people’s homes using personal cars. Instacart’s “secret sauce” is its software, which tracked inventory across multiple supermarkets. [BLOOMBERG]


The trailer for ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ was released last night during the college playoffs game. The movie is directed by Joss Whedon and the cast of characters played by Scarlet Johannson, Robert Downey, Jr, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans are back. [THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER]
