• While attending to a call from a resident who complained about a group of prostitutes soliciting in the 7500 block of South Peoria in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood of the city’s South Side, Alderman David Moore (17th) was punched by the group and a 22 year old man was arrested shortly after. NATIONAL NEWS
• David Ray Conley III, 49 is suspected in the killing of eight people- his ex-wife, her husband, and six children – including his own son all shot to death, some multiple times- in their Houston home early Sunday and has so far been charged with three counts of capital murder after an hour standoff with police. A welfare check on the residence by authorities led them to the home. [CNN]
WORLD NEWS
• Turkey, after launching its synchronized war on Islamic State last month following previous reluctance by Ankara to engage in the fight against IS militants, has been a hotbed of activity. Yesterday, the US sent six F-16 jets and about 300 personnel to Incirlik Air Base in order to launch air strikes against IS militants. Today the U.S. consulate in Istanbul came under gunfire with at least eight people dead. Elsewhere a vehicle rigged with explosives was used in an attack on a police station causing injuries but no deaths reported. [REUTERS]

• The Chicago Cubs are on a hot hot streak right now! Last night, they beat the San Francisco Giants 2-0, sweeping the four-game series, which was the Cubs’ first sweep of the Giants at Wrigley Field since June 9-12, 1977. Giants Left Fielder Nori Aoki left in the 3rd inning after being hit in the head with a 92 mph fastball from Jake Arrieta. Though the game ended with a W, a bomb threat that was called in following the game led to complete evacuation of Wrigley Field. The Cubs are ahead of San Francisco 3 1/2 games in the race for a second National League wild-card playoff berth.
BUSINESS
• Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. will complete its largest deal, valued at $37.2 billion including debt, to purchase aircraft components maker Precision Castparts Corp. the supplier of choice for the world’s aerospace industry. Paying $235/share a 21.2 percent premium to Precision Castparts’ Friday close of $193.88. [BLOOMBERG]

• Yesterday, NFL legend, Hall of Fame football player and former “Monday Night Football” host, Frank Gifford died of natural causes in his Connecticut home at 84. [NBC NEWS]
