 Chicago-based Engaged Interactive launched Quxsi to help commuters determine the most cost-effective commute when surge pricing is in place. “We wanted to answer the question: Is it cheaper to take a cab or UberX?” Quxsi allows users to calculate the price upfront by using a surge charge multiplier to determine fare costs. [DNA INFO]

 The head of investment banking at Lazard, Antonio F. Weiss is President Obama’s nominee to be under secretary of the Treasury for domestic finance and has given the left an unlikely rallying cry to press for a more aggressively liberal economic policy agenda. Senator Elizabeth Warren said, “the Antonio Weiss nomination is a mistake, and that’s why I’m fighting back.” [NY TIMES]

 Mexico’s President Enrique Pena Nieto vowed to simplify Mexico’s chaotic police structure and stop collusion between officials and drug gangs. This comes after anger and pressure from protesters over the apparent massacre of 43 students in September. [REUTERS]

 Brazilian soccer legend Pele is in an intensive care unit being treated for a urinary tract infection at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo. He has reassured fans that he is in good health though he is receiving renal support treatment, and had been moved to ICU primarily to protect his privacy. [SF GATE]

BUSINESS

 San Francisco-based Uber was hit by a preliminary injunction from a Washoe County  (Nevada) judge that temporarily prevents the ride-sharing firm from operating statewide. Uber characterized the ruling as a holiday burden for workers in Nevada. [CNBC]

 Shia LaBeouf has claimed that he was raped by a woman in a gallery earlier this year during his #IAMSORRY event in Los Angeles. This was in a series of bizarre email exchange with a journalist from Dazed. [PAGE SIX]
