Former Notre Dame president, the Rev. Theodore Hesburgh died at the age of 97 late Thursday night on the university campus in South Bend, Indiana. Hesburgh will  be remembered as a civil rights leader, a champion of immigration rights and a supporter of Third World development. He was featured on the cover of Time magazine for an article that described him as the most influential figure in the reshaping of Catholic education. He was so respected by others in education that he was awarded 150 honorary degrees. [CHICAGO TRIBUNE]

Ron Johnson, former Senior VP of retail operations for Apple Inc, led the round that is a comparatively small amount for the company, since its last round was a $40 million Series B, also from Index.
