• Chicago will have the highest sales tax in the country starting Jan. 2017 after yesterday’s Cook County tax increase to 10.25% announcement. Also family and friends of former Chicago resident, 28-year-old Sandra Bland, want answers after she was pronounced dead by the Waller County Sheriff’s Office in Texas “from what appears to be self-inflicted asphyxiation.”

• Former President(41st) Georg H.W Bush fell at their home in Maine, suffering a neck fracture but he is recuperating and in stable condition.
WORLD NEWS
• Did pro-Russian rebels shoot down flight MH-17 that was flying over Ukraine killing 298 people? Though a final report from investigators has yet to be released, leaked details from a report say that evidence points to pro-Russian rebels using a Buk missile (a Russian surface-to-air missile), as being responsible for shooting down MH-17. Malaysia Airlines disregarded the notice to airmen or NOTAMs and did not avoid flying over the conflict zone.
SPORTS
• The University of Michigan announced their record 11 year deal with Nike to begin during the 2016-2017 season after their contract with Adidas expires. The richest apparel deal in collegiate sports history is worth $169 million ( $77 million of that in cash and $80 million in apparel) and runs through 2027. Nike has contracts with other Division I collegiate programs, such as Oregon, Alabama and Ohio State.

• What was the verdict on Amazon’s highly anticipated much hyped Prime Day? Luvvie had the best recap: You know that person you meet at the gym and they’re wearing a great outfit and they start stretching and you just know their workout is going to be amazing because they’ve talked about how they’re about to make the machines their bish? And then they get on the benchpress and they do 2 reps and then get up like “wHEW! that was great!” And you’re like WTF? All that and you didn’t even come correct? Yes. That’s Amazon Prime Day. WOMP.

• Last night’s ESPY awards moments included: Caitlyn Jenner’s speech ‘Trans people deserve something vital, they deserve your respect,’ after being awarded the Arthur Ashe Courage Award by Abby Wambach, where she thanked her children (Khloe, Kim, Kourtney, Kendall, Kylie, Brody, Burt, Brandon and Casey Jenner), Diane Sawyer,and her mom Esther. Bengals DT Devon Still accepting the Jimmy V Perseverance Award on behalf of his daughter Leah. Other award recipients included The Chicago Bulls team for Sports Humanitarian of the Year; Peyton Manning for Best Record-Breaking Performance; Danielle Green was presented the Pat Tillman Award for Service; Derek Jeter received the Icon Award; Best Male Athlete to Stephen Curry and UFC Champion Ronda Rousey accepted the Best Female Athlete Award with a jab at Floy Mayweather and the US women’s soccer team won for Best Team. Above all, Chicago news anchor Cheryl Burton’s should never wear that dress again, never ever.

• The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund 2015 finalists have been announced and the next gen designers are: Baja East, Baldwin Denim, Jonathan Simkhai, Chromat to name a few. The winner will be announced November 2. Past winners & runners up have included Alexander Wang, Altuzarra, and Proenza Schouler; Tabitha Simmons, Prabal Gurung, and Thom Browne. Speeaking of magazines, Carine Roitfeld’s CR Fashion Book will add Men’s Magazine–CR Men’s Book to be released Sept. 10.
• Sam Smith is fronting a campaign for Balenciaga and the #BALXSAMSMITH was revealed via a teaser on their instagram page. Elsewhere Tory Burch won a trademark infringement lawsuit against Lin & J International Inc. for copying her trademarks and designs and has been awarded $41.2 million
