• Details are still emerging over yesterday’s shooting attack at a recruiting center and a Navy and Marine reserve center in Chattanooga, Tenn by Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez, 24, where he killed four Marines and injured three others at the support center. Law enforcement officials have since searched Abdulazeez’s home in Hixson, Tenn and two women in the home were led away handcuffed. He was arrested for drunk driving in April and described as “lone wolf” acting without clear links to terrorist groups. Also yesterday James Holmes was found guilty of 24 counts of first-degree murder — two for each victim slain — as well as 134 counts of first-degree attempted murder, six counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of explosives possession, in an Aurora movie theater three years ago. Now they decide if he gets the death penalty.
WORLD NEWS
• Multiple suicide attacks by the terror group Boko Haram have killed at least 64 people as some celebrate the muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr. two women suicide bombers killed 12 people at two prayer grounds in Damaturu on Friday morning and earlier two bombs killed 50 people buying goods for the holiday at the market in Gombe.
SPORTS
• Tokyo is set to host the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics games and those plans may have hit a small snag. The initial design for the Olympic stadium designed by British architect Zaha Hadid has been scrapped and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said his government would “start over from zero” and will still be completed in time for the games but not ready in time for the 2019 Rugby World Cup, which Japan is also hosting.
BUSINESS
• South Korea’s biggest conglomerate, Samsung Group’s founding family won a landmark proxy battle and merging firm Cheil Industries Inc and Samsung C&T Corp into one entity. In another business related fight, Uber wants its riders in New York to take action on mayor Bill de Blasio’s proposed temporary cap on for-hire vehicles.The City Council plan, with the mayor’s support, would limit expansion of the industry’s growth for a year while City Hall officials conduct a study.
ENTERTAINMENT
• Nominations for the Emmys were announced yesterday by Emmy Award winner Uzo Aduba of Orange Is the New Black and four-time Primetime Emmy Award nominee from So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley and there were some surprise ( and snubs. Game of Thrones’ dominated with 24 nominations. The Emmys will air live on Sept. 20 and hosted by Andy Samberg.
FASHION
• Louis Vuitton’s multi-coloured Takashi Murakami monogram, a counterfeit favorite, will be discontinued later this year moving out of stores at the end of July, forever. New creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere, “is focused on returning to the classic print for his bag offering, while playing with shape and proportion.” In other LV news, LVMH’s watch division which owns the Zenith, Hublot and Tag Heuer watch brands, unveiled plans to launch a smart watch to compete with the Apple Watch.
