• Jerome Kerviel is an almost free man after only serving 5 months of a 3 year sentence. Who is Kerviel? He’s the trader who brought banking French “giant Societe Generale to its knees in 2008 with wildly risky trades.” He lived within modest means for someone making deals he madde. • Hyperemesis Gravidarum is also known as acute morning sickness and guess who has it? Duchess of Cambridge Kate which means prince George is going to be a brother. It was announced that she is being treated for very acute morning sickness in Kensington Palace instead of the hospital this time and the baby will be due next year. [BBC]

SPORTS

• 18! The legal age to vote in US and also the number of Grand Slam titles Serena Williams has won. She added another hardware to her trophy case beating friend Caroline Wozniacki(who by the way has had a bang up season following her called off wedding). This is the third U.S Open win for Serena and she is now tied for record with Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova who proposed to her girlfriend  Julia Lemigova Saturday at the tournament. The men’s final will see Japan’s Kei Nishikori against Marin Cillic of France tonight[NY TIMES]
• The video of Ravens running back Ray Rice punching his now wife has leaked and it is intense to watch. No word yet on if the NFL commissioner saw the video in its entirety before the league suspended him for only 2 games and instituted a domestic violence policy. [TMZ]

BUSINESS

•  You might know Electrolux as the home appliance brand that Kelly Ripa appears in commercials for but they are expanding their US presence, big time. The Swedish company bought General Electric for “$3.3 billion in cash to double sales in North America and take on rival Whirlpool Corp in its biggest ever deal.” “Electrolux, which sells under brands such as Frigidaire, AEG and Zanussi as well as its own name, is already the world’s second-largest home appliance maker after Whirlpool, but has its strongest market position in Europe.” [REUTERS]

• The Toronto International Film Festival is underway and several films are already garnering buzz from critics and voters. Robert Downey Jr in The Judge, Eddie Redmayne, Felicity Jones in the film The Theory of Everything. [THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER]
• Joan River’s funeral was a star studded affair at Temple Emanu-El, just as she would have wanted it. From a singing tribute by Hugh Jackman and the NYC Gay men’s chorus, celebrity attendees including Howard Stern, and the Emerald Society closing with bagpipe rendition of New York, New York. FASHION

• A new book, “Champagne Supernovas,” by Maureen Callahan delves into the family drama behind designer Marc Jacobs.
