The Supremes. Before bidding adieu for the year, three cases were up for decision. 1) Former Virginia governor Robert F. McDonnell’s public-corruption conviction was unanimously vacated. The case centered around the question of what constitutes the scope of an “official action” under federal corruption law. McDonnell was found guilty of violating the law when he received, gifts, money and loans from Jonnie R. Williams, the CEO of a Virginia-based company, in exchange for official acts seen as favorable to Williams and his business. 2) In a 5-3 ruling with the help of Justice Anthony Kennedy, a Texas abortion access law was thrown out signaling victory to abortion rights activists. Anti-abortion activists since Roe v. Wade have worked to pass a slew of laws across the country restricting abortions or making them more difficult, like the law struck down in Texas. 3) In Voisine v. • Volkswagen AG, attorneys for the U.S. government and angry customers are set to announce a package of measures valued at up to $15 billion which could award up to $10,000 to each car owners in order to resolve the German car maker’s emissions-cheating scandal in the U.S., though European owners of nearly three million tainted vehicles may go empty-handed.
• Cubs’ Kris Bryant had a record night yesterday in Cincinnati becoming the first MLB player to hit three home runs and 2 doubles in a game. The Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 11-8.

• Last week Italian shoe brand Aquazzura, founded by Edgardo Osorio, sued Ivanka Trump for “repeated infringement” and “deceptive trade practices.” Now the brand loved by fashion girls all over is suing Steve Madden in New York’s US Federal District Court, citing three of Steve Madden’s designs – Sharliet, Sassey and Lecrew – are being copies of the Italian footwear label’s Sexy Thing, Wild Thing and Christy styles. • Max Mara Group announced they are launching two womenswear contemporary labels. Aiim (knitwear) and Tresophie (formal), will debut early next year overseas and will be avialable in the US by Fall 2017.
