Last night, the Black Entertainment Network’s annual awards show, opened with a surprise performance of Freedom by Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar and excerpt of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have A Dream” speech. The highly anticipated Prince tribute definitely did not disappoint with Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder, Bilal, Sheila E, Janelle Monae, Erykah Badu, Maxwell. Grey’s Anatomy actor/social activist Jesse Williams’ speech after receiving the humanitarian award from BET chairman/CEO Debra Lee, was inspiring. Boxing legend Muhammad Ali was also honored. • Brexit’s lingering hangover. There’s no amount of advils, gatorade, IV hydration that will reverse the action that many didn’t realize how consequential it would be (Google reported a spike in ‘What is the EU’ searches).
