MALI

This is breaking news but here’s what’s being reported so far. The Radisson Blu hotel in Bamako, Mali, was attacked by gunmen shouting Islamic slogans and they initially took 170 hostages. At least three hostages have been killed, about 80 people have been released, reportedly those that could recite the shahada, though an eyewitness accounted that the attackers spoke english. Malian special security forces have entered the Radisson Blu to begin a counter-assault. Mali, a former French colony, serves as a logistics hub for French forces helping in a fight against Islamist insurgents. Crew from Turkish Airlines and Air France staying in the hotel have been accounted for though Air France has cancelled flights from and to Bamako for Friday.

LAQUAN MCDONALD

Yesterday, Cook County Associate Judge Franklin Valderrama ruled that the video showing the shooting of Laquan McDonald can be released by November 25. You see 17-year-old Laquan who as high on PCP was holding a knife but was shot 16 times by Officer Jason Van Dyke  reportedly because he lunged at the officer but the video proves otherwise. The city of Chicago has since settled with his family for $5million but journalist Brandon Smith had to file a suit to have it released. The next few days will be tense.
