Following the death of Freddie Gray and protests for justice, the US Justice Department is launching a civil rights investigation of the Baltimore Police Department. Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake requested the Justice Department inquiry to determine whether the department has a “pattern or practice” of unconstitutional policing. [WSJ]

 What was predicted to be a close election wasn’t quite so as Britain Prime Minister David Cameron and his conservative party surpassed the 325 seat threshold that allows them to govern alone for the first time since 1992. Sweep! The Chicago Blackhawks, in the quest for another Stanley Cup, eliminated the Minnesota Wild wining the game 4-3. Blackhawks defenseman Michal Rozsival suffered a brutal leg injury Thursday night that has his status for the remainder of the playoffs up in the air. The Blackhawks will now wait for the winner of the Anaheim Ducks-Calgary Flames series. [ESPN]

Monsanto, the U.S. based maker of genetically-modified seeds and weedkillers offered a $45 billion takeover bid of Syngenta AG, the world’s largest maker of agrochemicals and it was rejected; the bid amount undervalued the company.
