CHICAGO NEWS

Communities in northern Illinois bore most of the wrath of deadly tornadoes that touched down with one person killed and seven were injured in Fairdale. In nearby Rochelle, they were also hit with one of the areas biggest tornadoes. The storm moved across DeKalb, Boone and McHenry counties, sporadically touching down and causing damage. [WSJ]

BMPEA, a stimulant that was originally synthesized in the 1930s as a replacement for amphetamines, has been found in dietary supplements labeled to contain a shrub called Acacia rigidly and Vitamin Shoppe announced that it will no longer sell products that contain Acacia rigidly. [ABC NEWS]

President Obama was in Jamaica yesterday and during a town hall with students at the University of the West Indie he received a rousing applause when he used the Patois saying to greet them saying “Wah gwan Jamaica.” The President will head to Panama next and attend a summit of Latin American leaders and it was also indicated that he plans to announce Cuba’s removal from the U.S. State Department’s list of state sponsors of terrorism. Mount St. Joseph’s basketball player Lauren Hill has lost her fight against an inoperable and rare brain tumor cancer on Friday. During her battle with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma , the 19-year-old had helped raise more than $1.5 million for cancer research. [ESPN]

General Electric is exiting its lending business and will sell of most of its real estate holdings to refocus the company, retaining only GE Capital Aviation Services, Energy Financial Services and Healthcare Equipment Finance.
