Whether you want to explore new haunts in Chicago, relax, take in a festival, or have a night out on the town that’ll make your snapchat and insta stories followers green with envy, here’s what to get into this weekend. It’s #summertimeChi so there’s a lot taking place this weekend but these are the recommended ones for you to go either solo or with a group for a good time. WHAT :: MCA Screening: Solange Knowles, When I Get Home

WHY:: The MCA is delighted to screen When I Get Home an extended director’s cut of the latest moving image work by visual artist and singer and songwriter, Solange Knowles. When I Get Home, directed and edited by Solange Knowles with contributing directors Alan Ferguson, Terence Nance, Jacolby Satterwhite, and Ray Tintori, is an exploration of origin and spiritual expedition and the personal evolutions required to leave one’s place of birth. Shot in Knowles’s home state of Texas, the film honors her Houston lineage by creating a pastiche of iconic Houston locations, abstract narratives featuring black cowboys, and incorporating the work of other Houston-raised artists.

WHY :: Each year since 1994, the Gene Siskel Film Center has presented the Annual Black Harvest Film Festival, a vibrant celebration of independent films that tell the stories and explore the images, heritage, and history of the worldwide Black experience. For this exhibit, Brantley has hand-embellished a limited number of prints from both archived and new editions and Rotofugi will have one hand-embellished framed copy of each print only for customers to score a unique item for their collection! BYOB Opening reception will take place Saturday, August 3, from 7-10pm for complimentary snacks and soft drinks.
