• A Garfield Ridge man who set up a date last week via Facebook was robbed instead by 17-year-old Matthew Brosmore and an accomplice. DNA Info reports, The 27-year-old victim had agreed to pick up a woman he met on Facebook in the 5900 block of West 64th Street about 10:45 p.m. on Jan. 19. As the woman walked to the victim’s car, he unlocked his doors; She then stepped aside, and Brosmore hopped in the passenger seat and pulled a knife. Brosmore, who’s currently on juvenile probation for aggravated battery, was charged as an adult with two counts of felony aggravated vehicular hijacking. [DNA INFO]

• Miracle or Zombie cat? A cat that was presumed dead by its owner Ellis Hutson and buried 11 days ago clawed it’s way out and back to life. Bart the cat had been hit by a car and had a broken jaw, a ruptured eye and a torn-up face. He underwent surgery to remove his eye, wire his jaw shut and insert a feeding tube Tuesday afternoon. He is expected to make a full recovery in about six weeks. [MIAMI HERALD]

• Jordan has proposed that they are willing to hand over an Iraqi woman, Sajida al-Rishawi, jailed for her role in a 2005 suicide bomb attack if a Jordanian pilot, Lieutenant Muath al-Kasaesbeh, captured by Islamic State was released. There was no mention by Jordan’s spokesman of Japanese hostage Kenji Goto, a veteran war reporter being held by the militant group, who may have only 24 hours to live. Al-Rishawi has been held in Jordan over her role in a suicide bombing that killed 60 people in the capital Amman. [REUTERS]
•Jason Rezaian, an Iranian-American correspondent for the Washington Post, detained in Iran for months will stand trial “soon,” reports the Chicago Tribune. Rezaian, his wife, Yeganeh Salehi, and two photojournalists initially were detained July 22 in Iran’s capital, Tehran. All later were released except Rezaian, who is a dual U.S.-Iranian citizenship. Iran does not recognize dual citizenships. Though charges against Rezaian have not been disclosed he will be tried in Iran’s Revolutionary Court, which mostly hears cases involving security offenses. • Madison Keys advanced to the Australian Open semi-finals and will face Serena Williams. The Illinois (Rock Island) native beat Venus and this match will be the first time since 2002 that two Americans played one another in a Grand Slam semifinal. “It definitely feels amazing, It’s one of those things where you want to feel this way all the time.” Both players have big serves. Novak Djokovic will face the fourth-seeded Stan Wawrinka; Maria Sharapova will face her Russian compatriot Ekaterina Makarova. [USA TODAY]
•Former Vanderbilt University football players Brandon Vandenburg and Cory Batey were found guilty in the rape of an unconscious woman in a dorm on June 23, 2013. Both men could face decades in prison. In a statement, the victim said “I am also hopeful that the publicity this case has received will lead to a discussion of how we can end sexual violence on college campuses. Finally, I want to remind other victims of sexual violence: You are not alone. You are not to blame.” [USA TODAY]

• With bigger-screen iPhone 6 and 6 Plus sales rising 46 percent to 74.5 million units, topping analysts’ average estimate of 64.9 million, Apple had its largest profit in corporate history with a 30 percent jump in fiscal first-quarter revenue to $74.6 billion. Apple CEO Tim Cook also noted the highly anticipated Apple iWatch will begin shipping in April. Apple still faces challenges to growth, including the strengthening U.S. dollar. • Which do you choose? It seems the organizers for Chanel’s upcoming cruise show, taking place in Seoul, did not triple check their calendar as it will clash with the grande Met Ball aka the Oscar’s of fashion. This will be the second Chanel show in six months that has clashed with another major fashion event, following its Métiers d’Arts show in Salzburg on December 2, which coincided with the Victoria’s Secret show in London, to be fair VS is no Met ball.
