CHICAGO NEWS

Latasha Smith, a 28-year-old West Garfield Park woman who met a man on an online dating site (Badoo) last month and then abducted the man, stole his house keys and robbed his mother at gunpoint has been arrested and held without bond. Smith and an unknown accomplice abducted the man, tied him up with duct tape and blindfolded. [DNA INFO]

NATIONAL NEWS

Following news that officer Daniel Pantaleo would not be charged in the choking death of Eric Garner sparked peaceful protests across the country. The encounter, which was caught on video show Mr. Garner multiple times saying he couldn’t breathe after the officer put his neck in a chokehold. The officer testified to the grand jury it was a wrestling move and not a chokehold. [NY TIMES]

WORLD NEWS

NASA is due to launch the first test flight of Orion, its first space capsule in 40 years. The Orion space capsule is due to blast off for an unmanned, trial run from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station sometime today. A planned 7:05 a.m. launch was delayed when a boat strayed into the launch zone, and then a minor technical issue with the rocket was cleared and subsequent launch at 7:55am scrapped due to strong winds. [USA TODAY]

SPORTS

Fourth ranked Duke Blue Devils basketball team beat No. 2 Wisconsin Badgers and Duke freshman Tyus Jones scored 22 points, Chicago’s own Jahlil Okafor scored 13 points. [ESPN]

A German TV documentary has alleged that as many as 99% of Russian athletes are guilty of doping. The documentary, shown by Das Erste, also implicates the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) in covering up the abuse. World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) has said it will “fully investigate” the claims. [BBC]

BUSINESS

Sears’s third-quarter loss widened as the retailer continues to raise cash by closing stores and through loans from Chairman and CEO Eddie Lampert reports bloomberg. Online sales climbed about 9 percent from a year ago. [BUSINESSWEEK]

Toyota Motor Corp will recall 190,000 more vehicles to replace potentially defective air bags made by Takata and Japan’s regulator said it may change its recall system to better respond to what it called an “unprecedented” crisis reports reuters. Toyota said it would recall 185,000 vehicles across 19 models including the Corolla and Alphard in Japan, and 5,000 in China, as a preventative measure. Takata this week rejected an order by NHTSA to declare its inflators defective and expand an investigative recall in hot and humid regions to the rest of the country. [REUTERS]

Daniel Craig would be reprising his role as 007 in the 24th installment of the James Bond film franchise to be directed by Sam Mendes(Kate Winslet’s ex). He will be joined by Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Rory Kinnear, Monica Belluci, Christoph Waltz, David Bautista and Léa Seydoux and a new Aston Martin DB10. [DAILY MAIL]
