The lineup for this year’s Chicago Ideas Week has been announced and some of the headliners include Martha Stewart, Cynthia Rowley, Sal Khan, Michael Strahan, David Gregory and many more. CIW will run from October 12-18 at various locations in the city. Congratulations to the Chicago and Chicago area companies that made this year’s Inc 5000 list of the fastest growing private companies in America.

A warehouse explosion in Tianjin, China,one of the world’s busiest port cities 90 miles from Beijing, has resulted in at least 50 dead including 12 firefighters and injured up to 700 people. Executives of Ruihai Logistiscs, the company that owns the warehouse were arrested.


SPORTS

The PGA Championships at Whistling Straits will begin today and go until Sunday with top players Rory McIllroy, Jordan Speith, vying for the Wannamaker Cup. We were there as the players took in their final practice rounds(check instagram/facebook/snapchat)


BUSINESS

NBC Universal has invested $200million in digital publishing company Vox Media (SB Nation, Polygon, The Verge, Vox.com, Eater, Racked, Curbed and Re/code) and unconfirmed reports state same amount has been invested in BuzzFeed as well. The investment in Vox which nows values it at $1b (unicorn status), means that the two companies will now have commercial partnership collaborating on digital, video advertising and programming.
