The Columbia University Journalism School review revealed their review of the Rolling Stone UVA Rape case article that detailed allegations about a gang rape in a frat house, found the journalistic failure was avoidable, and encompassed problems with reporting, editing, editorial supervision and fact-checking. Rolling Stone and Sabrina Rubin Erdely the author of the November 2014 article, has since issued an apology; Erdely concedes that she “didn’t go far enough to verify her story. I allowed my concern for Jackie’s well-being, my fear of re-traumatizing her, and my confidence in her credibility to take the place of more questioning and more facts.” [ABC NEWS]


WORLD NEWS

 US Ambassador Andrew Schapiro has the door to the Prague castle closed to him by Czech President Milos Zeman following Shapiro’s comments made earlier in the week that it would be “awkward” for Zeman to be the only EU statesman to attend a World War Two commemoration in Moscow. The Czech presidency is largely a ceremonial role. 17 suspected militants, two having just returned from Syria, have been detained for allegedly plotting to carry out terrorist acts in the country’s largest city, Kuala Lumpur. [AP]

Sergey Aleynikov, a former Goldman Sachs computer programmer who was accused of stealing the bank’s “secret sauce” or high-frequency trading code but had his federal conviction dismissed will be back in court. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr has brought state charges on Aleynikov, claiming he stole the code when he left to work for Teza Technologies LLC, the firm founded by former Citadel Investment Group LLC high-frequency trading chief Mikhail Misha Malyshev. CELEBRITIES

•  Mindy Kaling’s (real name: Vera Mindy Chokalingam) brother definitely isn’t following in her comedic footsteps, but his recent claims may seem straight out of an SNL skit. Vijay ChokalIngam claims that the only reason he was accepted into medical school was because he “shaved my head, trimmed my long Indian eyelashes, and applied to medical school as a black man; Vijay the Indian-American frat boy become Jojo the African American Affirmative Action applicant to medical school.” [TIME]

Andrew Bolton, curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute was honored by Anna Wintour at the Vilcek Foundation Awards Gala and a $100,000 award prize. Held at the Mandarin Oriental; guests included his partner Thom Browne, Baz Luhrmann, Jonathan and Lizzie Tisch, Amy Fine Collins, Harold Koda and Shelley Fox. The Vilcek Foundation Awards honors foreign-born professionals who have made outstanding contributions to society in the United States in one of two fields: science, and an arts-based one. [WWD]
