The Las Vegas mother who was killed in a road rage incident knew her killer and he has since been arrested. 19-year-old Erich Milton Nowsch Jr faces charges for allegedly shooting and killing Tammy Meyers.Meyers had just finished giving her 15-year-old a late-night driving lesson in a school parking lot when the incident started. Gemalto, a major manufacturer of sim cards based in Netherlands, was hacked by US and UK intelligence agencies in order to steal privacy-protecting encryption key codes to facilitate eavesdropping on mobile phones. This intel came from documents provided by former US intelligence contractor and whistleblower Edward Snowden. [REUTERS]

WORLD NEWS

A group of 158 women and children who were kidnapped by Boko Haram during a raid on Katarko village in Yobe state, Nigeria and spent about a month in captivity, have been reunited with their families. The 200 girls kidnapped from a boarding school in Chibok have yet to be rescued. [BBC]

The mayor of Caracas (Venezuela) and opposition leader Antonio Ledezma, has been arrested for his role in allegedly helping plan a U.S.-backed coup against the socialist government. Venezuelan President President Nicolas Maduro said the plan was financed and directed by Washington. [VOICE OF AMERICA]

SPORTS

Jerome Kersey, the Portland Trail Blazers basketball legend who died Wednesday, died as a result of a blot clot that formed in his calf and then clogged his lungs causing a pulmonary embolism according to reports from TMZ. The 52-year-old helped the Portland Trail Blazers reach two NBA Finals and won a title with the San Antonio Spurs in 1999. “There was a blood clot in his left calf that broke loose and traveled to his lungs and clogged both his pulmonary arteries.” [TMZ]

YouTube Kids, a new app by YouTube-owned by Google, Inc will be released next week with focus on kid-appropriate content. The app, which will be separate from the mainstream YouTube mobile app, will also feature parental controls such as a timer that can be used to limit a child’s screen time. Programs will include:Thomas the Tank Engine, Yo Gabba Gabba; a radio for video renditions of popular songs; a light bulb for educational programming such as Khan Academy; and binoculars to explore a range of top videos. 8th Annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon - Show
The 8th Annual ESSENCE Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon was hosted at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel yesterday and honored cast of “Orange is the New Black” with the Vanguard award presented by Lupita Nyong’o. Shorts filmmaker Iman N. Milner was given the Discovery award. OWN will air the eighth annual luncheon as a primetime special on Feb. 21. [VARIETY]

Celebrities such as Amy Poehler, Seth Meyers, paid tribute over social media mourning the death of Harris Wittels, writer and co-executive producer on the NBC comedy “Parks and Recreation,” who died of a possible drug overdose at his Los Angeles home. 26 designers have been shortlisted to the second annual LVMH Prize, which would award the winner €300,000 and a year of mentorship from executives at the luxury conglomerate. Chicago’s own Virgil Abloh, trained architect and creative director to Kanye West and designer of the label Off White was named one of the finalists.
