CHICAGO NEWS

Former IL Gov. Rod B, who’s currently serving time, had five (of 18) convictions vacated by an appeals court and will at some point be re-sentenced. “If the prosecutor elects to drop the vacated charges, the district court could proceed directly to re-sentencing on the remaining 13 convictions only, according to the court document USA v. Rod Blagojevich.” Basically vacated convictions may not = less time served lest his lawyers can prove otherwise and Rods wife Patti is disappointed. [NBC CHICAGO]


NATIONAL NEWS

There may be a lion or lioness on the loose in Milwaukee. A couple saw the animal outside their home and several 911 calls have also been filed regarding the sighting. [ABC]


WORLD NEWS

Chicago based MacArthur Foundation, which has been operating an office in Moscow for nearly a quarter century distributing more than $173 million in grants in Russia, is closing it after Russian lawmakers branded it a threat to the country. They are included in the Federation Council’s “patriotic stop-list” of groups recommended for designation as “undesirable” by the government. The action followed a series of laws targeting foreign-funded non-government organizations. [BLOOMBERG]


SPORTS

Richard Jefferson is still playing ball? It’s being reported he has agreed to terms on a one-year deal for next season with the Cleveland Cavaliers though contract hasn’t been signed yet. Jefferson the No. 13 overall pick in the 2001 draft who has played for New Jersey, Milwaukee, San Antonio, Golden State and Utah will receive the veteran’s minimum salary of roughly $1.5 million.


BUSINESS

AT&T’s $48.5 billion purchase of DirecTV has been given the nod(signature) of approval by the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission Tom Wheeler but with certain conditions. They can’t do the praise dance just yet because four other commissioners have yet to vote on the proposal of the biggest media deal of the past year to create the country’s largest provider of cable or satellite TV. “The Department of Justice approved the deal, saying Tuesday that it doesn’t pose a significant risk to competition.” You’ll remember Comcast tried to buy Time Warner Cable for slightly less and they got rejected by FCC, burn. • St. Jude Medical Inc, a global medical device company headquartered Minnesota has agreed to Thoratec for $3.4 billion to expand its portfolio of heart failure devices. Though thoratec, maker of products for advanced heart failure patients, can try to find rival offers for the next 30 days under the agreement, but its expected to close in the fourth quarter and is net of cash. ENTERTAINMENT

The VMA nominations (they still do that) were announced yesterday and it caused some alleged twitter beef btw Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift #Badblood. The rapper went on twitter to vent her MTV frustration and Taylor Swift must have felt one of said tweets was aimed for her (@ me next time) and chimed in. [US WEEKLY]


FASHION

The invitation-only International Woolmark Prize is one of the most prestigious awards recognizing up-and-coming designers and the 2015/16 USA regional final announced July 21 named SIKI IM and Tanya Taylor the menswear and womenswear winners, respectively. They will represent the USA and compete in the prestigious international final for menswear in Florence in January 2016, and womenswear final will be held in New York in February 2016. [WOOLMARK]
