• A BYOB dinner party style called Social Table is set to open September2 reports Crains. For $75 per guest, up to 10 guests can sign up to join the dinner party based on cuisine or theme. The Social Table is neither “a restaurant, not a bar, not a catering company” so the zoning committe designated it a “shared kitchen.” [CRAINS CHICAGO]

• In this corner we have Square and stepping into the ring is Amazon, let the games begin! Amazon debut a new card reader and mobile app that costs $10, for brick-mortar businesses. Amazon Local Register is the name of the device and it’s to provide needed information to the company on how consumers shop offline. This is another addition of new debut from Jeff Bezos’ empire who recently revelaed the Amazon fire phone earlier in June. “Those who sign up for Amazon’s program before Oct. 31 will be charged 1.75 percent for each card swiped until January 2016.” [REUTERS]
• Nicolas Holzer, calmly, called Santa Barbara County police to report that he had killed his whole family. He is being charged with the murder of his 73-year-old father, his 74-year-old mother, his 2 sons and their dog. He “told detectives the killings were his destiny,” it is unclear at the time of his arrest whether he suffered from mental illness. [USA TODAY]

• The bodies of five climbers in France’s Mont Blanc were found and a sixth missing. “The climbers disappeared overnight as they were trying to reach the Aiguille d’Argentiere.” August is the height of the climbing season on Mount Blanc. [IRISH TIMES]

• Chicago White Sox beat the San Francisco Giants 3-2 in the 10th inning with an an RBI single to left field by Gordon Beckham. Although Chris Sale of the WhiteSox pitched eight scoreless innings, Zach Putnam earned the W “by pitching a scoreless 1 1/3 innings, including the 10th.” ; Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-0. • MMA fighter Jonathan Koppenhaver “War Machine” is still on the run after 7 arrest warrants were issued. He is being charged with beating his ex-girlfriend, porn star Christy Mack and leaving her with severe injuries. Images of her injuries and extent of them were shared in a personal statement to Huffington Post. [HUFFINGTON POST]

• Screen legend and former wife of Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall died at age 89. She appeared in such films as Murder on the Orient Express,” her first film was “To Have and Have Not,” “How to Marry a Millionaire” “The Mirror Has Two Faces.” She was honored in 2009 with an honorary Oscar by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
• Nicky Hilton is engaged! The Hilton hotel heiress is engaged to boyfriend banker James Rothschild, they have been dating since mid 2011. He popped the question during their European holiday in Lake Como, Italy. [US WEEKLY]

• Alexandra Wilkis Wilson, one of the co-founders of luxury flash sale site Gilt Groupe is backing a new beauty startup-Glamsquad which offers at-home hair and makeup services. On Sept. 1 she will take over as co-founder and CEO. There are currently others in this market, Vensette and closer to Chicago, The Stylisted. Users can use their app to “book stylists who will visit them at home, in the office or at the gym. Hair starts at $50; makeup at $75. The company currently operates in New York City and is testing plans to enter the Los Angeles market.” The company has raised about $2 million in seed financing. [WSJ]
• Luxury is getting into the game, the pop-up game. Louis Vuitton will open its first pop-up shop in London’s ultra cool Dover Street Market during London Fashion Week in September. Vogue UK reports “The temporary space will showcase a tight edit of ready-to-wear from Nicolas Ghesquiere’s debut autumn/winter 2014 collection for the brand, as well as accessories including sunglasses, jewellery and shoes from the runway show.” [VOGUE UK]
