• Has agreed to purchase Meredith Corp which prints Better Home & Garden and owns 17 TV stations, for about $2.4 billion at $54.53/share to create the third largest local television station owner in the country. The combined company will be called Meredith Media General. [WSJ]
SPORTS
• A lot happened over the labor day weekend in the world of sports. At the US Open, top ranked Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal were bested by lower ranked players. Serena will face Venus Tuesday night. College football also got underway this weekend. Several B1G(big 10) teams came out with Ws but the highlight was the Monday night matchup of Ohio State vs Virginia Tech. Braxton Miller’s spin move run for a touchdown, and VT QB Brewer’s broken collarbone. [USA TODAY]
GERMANY
• Is making room for refugees escaping their war torn homes and could take up to half a million migrants a year, for several years; it will reduce cash handouts to asylum seekers after criticism of its generosity.The Greek island of Lesbos currently has about 20,000 migrants waiting for ferry to the mainland. Britain and France have been criticized for not doing enough. The US has also been criticized as being relatively silent during this crisis though it might be cautionary move over concerns that ISIS militants will slip into the country. [WASHINGTON POST]

• Is the first British male solo artist to sing the title to a James Bond movie since 1965 when Tom Jones sang “Thunderball.” The Grammy award winner has collaborated with Jimmy Naples; the track titled “Writing’s On The Wall” will come out Sept. 26 and the movie Spectre set to open in the UK October 26 and US Nov. 6.
