• Crate and Barrel CEO, Sascha Bopp has resigned. He had been CEO since 2012 and his #2 Marta Calle left the company in mid-july according to Crain’s. Could Gordon Segal be making a comeback to the company he founded? [CRAINS CHICAGO] • ArrowStream CEO Steven LaVoie who was shot last week by Tony DeFrances at their office is making small improvements. He is still in critical but stable condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

NATIONAL NEWS

• Gannett publishing has split their business into two publicly traded companies, separating the newspaper publishing and digital assets. For $1.8 billion they’ve also agreed to purchase 73 percennt interest in Classified Ventures, owner cars.com bringing them to control ownership. [BLOOMBERG] 
•Although she was convicted last year of first-degree murder in the 2008 killing of her boyfriend Travis Alexander, Jodi Arias has been granted permission to represent herself at the penalty phase of her trial set to start Sept. 8. Though she was convicted last year, the jury was unable to reach decision on her sentencing. Her defense lawyers will remain on as advisory council. [FOX NEWS]

• A new Suez Canal is coming to Egypt. The Canal is a man made waterway in Egypt that extends from Port Said to Suez and connecting the Mediterranean Sea with the Red Sea. It is fastest shipping route between Europe and Asia and Egypt hopes the $4 billion project will “raise Egypt’s international profile and establish it as a major trade hub.” [REUTERS]

SPORTS

• Texas football coach Charlie Strong means business for the Longhorns and this year’s squad. Players that arrived to first official day of the 2014-2015 practice were missing something, the orange longhorns on their helmets being told the must earn them. His “offseason motto for the Longhorns has been “Put the ‘T’ back in Texas.” [USA TODAY]

• Since at this point there’s nothing we can do to get away from the Kardashians, we join them. Appearing on the Jimmy Kimmel show last night she spilled some wedding details. ‘Khloe drank a little too much the night before and I had to wake her up,’ said the 33-year-old. On guests and sister Khloe drinking too much at their wedding rehearsal ‘She was laying down and getting her makeup done while she was sleeping, she was so hungover.’ On their wedding locations: As to why they chose France and Italy, Kim said: ‘We fell in love in Paris, I got pregnant with our daughter in Florence… we wanted to share our love story.’
