EGYPT
Over the weekend, a Russian airline, Kogalymavia, Airbus A321 leaving the Egyptian resort Sharm el-Sheikh disintegrated mid air following takeoff and all 224 passenger and crew onboard were killed over the Sinai Peninsula . Analysts belive it may have been caused by a bomb due to the fact it was not struck from the outside and the pilot did not make a distress call before it disappeared from radar and ISIS is already claiming responsibility. Russian President Vladimir Putin, who had declared Sunday a national day of mourning, said on Monday the crash was a great tragedy. [REUTERS]
ACQUISITIONS
It was a frenzied Monday start as three major acquisitions were anounced. Dublin based Drugmaker Shire has agreed to buy Burlington, Mass biotechnology company Dyax for $5.9 billion paying $37.30 per Dyax share. If a compound known as DX-2930 a drug that can treat heresitary angioedema receives approval dyax investors can also count on gettting another $4/share. Shire still has its sights on Baxalta, a Baxter spinoff that received an unsolicited $30bil offer in August. Someone send Shire a copy of “He’s just not that into you” because that’s what baxalta’s continuous rebuff means.
Visa has agreed to acquire Visa Europe ltd which managed more than 500 million accounts and more than 16 billion transactions last year. The deal is valued at as much as $23.4 billion. Ahead of Visa’s IPO the company split in 2007. This acquisition is of note because Visa will be able to increase its European contributions as 54% of its 2014 revenue came from the US vs mastercard’s 39% US revenue. ConAgra foods who made news recently that they are moving their HQ to Chicago (Merchandise Mart) beginning in summer 2016, announced their private label unit is being acquired by Oakbrook based TreeHouse Foods Inc. for $2.7 billion. HILLARY CLINTON
The Democratic presidential candidate will attend three fundraising events today in Chicago starting the morning with a $2,700-per-person shindig at the Gold Coast home of Tanya and Michael Polsky-CEO of Invenergy (UofC Polsky center donor, whose ex-wife Maya Polsky received a $184 million divorce settlement). Her rumored VP candidate, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Julián Castro will be in Chicago today as well, joined by U.S. Senator Dick Durbin at the Bluhm Legal Clinic at the Northwestern University School of Law for a press conference at 12:00 p.m. to highlight new efforts to ease the transition from prison for those formerly incarcerated and expand opportunities for jobs and housing.

Well we thought it was a joke too but this non-Florida incident took place at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo Halloween night as 33-year-old Jacqueline Eide was bitten by Mai an 18-year-old Malayan tiger; she has been cited for criminal trespass and the incident is under investigation…A 4.1 quake hit parts of the central Arizona area, followed by a 4.0 quake about 20 minutes later then a smaller, magnitude-3.2 quake, hit at 9 p.m. and were felt in the Phoenix area with no reports of damage or injury thus far…Tiger Woods’ former caddy Steve Williams, who parted ways with Woods in 2011 in his new book “Out of the Rough” said he sometimes felt like a “slave” to Tiger Woods.
WORLD SERIES
The Kansas City Royals are the 2015 world Series champions beating the NY Mets 7-2 in extra innings at Citi Field. Royals superfan, Paul Rudd took a beer shower with the team in the locker room.
ENTERTAINMENT
The Hollywood Film Awards which took place in the Beverly Hilton Hotel last night Amy Schmuer received the Hollywood Comedy Award; Hollywood Supporting Actress Award went to Jane Fonda. “The Official Launch of the Awards Season,” was hosted by James Corden with award recipients including Jamie Foxx, Jake Gyllenhaal, Selena Gomez, Alicia Vikander, Johnny Depp, Joel Edgerton, Ridley Scott, Tom Hooper and Will Smith.
