According report recently released, nonpartisan congressional investigators found that about three-fourths of the $80 billion budget goes to keep aging technology running. The Defense Department’s Strategic Automated Command and Control System is running on a 1970s IBM computing platform, and still uses 8-inch floppy disks to store data. • World renowned and Chicago based artist, educator Nick Cave will be one of 16 artists profiled in a new Art21 TV series “Art in the Twenty-First Century” hosted by Claire Danes airing on PBS Sept. 16 and 23.

• Department of Veterans Affairs has mistakenly declared thousands of veterans dead, cancelling their benefits over the past five years it was announced yesterday morning and they are now trying to rectify it. The VA has made the error more than 4,000 times over a half-decade because of employee mistakes or erroneous cross-checking of data by the department’s computers.

• New York Times’ executive team, in a memo Wednesday, revealed its plan to offer buyouts to employees who have been newsroom staff for three years or more though they have the option to deny applicants if their jobs are deemed “too critical” to the mission of the paper. Staff working in the video, graphics and digital design departments are not eligible to take a buyout. They are looking to invest more in global digital operations.

• Three days after his mother passed away, actor Johnny Depp’s wife Amber Heard has filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences; the separation date was listed as Sunday May 29. It’s reported Johnny’s familiy hated Amber. The couple married in February 2015 at their home in LA without a pre nup and Heard is seeking spousal support.

•  Red nose day! It’s a campaign to help children and having fun with monies raised benefiting organizations such as Charity Water, Boys & Girls Club and National Council of La Raza.

• Designers Claude Morais and Brian Wolk held their third annual fashion show in West Hollywood Tuesday night, styled by power stylist Elizabeth Stewart, who dressed Julia Roberts in a custom Wolk Morais jumpsuit this past week in Cannes. The show with an 80’s vibe was inspired by Giorgio’s, the Saturday night dance party held inside The Standard Hollywood hotel.

• Sylvana Ward Durrett, Vogue’s director of special events in charge of putting together the Met Gala and the “breakout star” of “The First Monday in May,” is leaving to start her own business according to PageSix report, Durrett worked her way up from Vogue EIC Anna Wintour’s assistant to chief planner of the Met Gala, overseeing the event’s meticulously planned seating. Speaking of “The First Monday in May,” it will be showing at the Siskel Film Center June 3-9.
