$6.5 million is the settlement amount the family of Walter Scott, the unarmed black South Carolina man shot and killed by police officer Michael Slager, reached with North Charleston city officials. The former Chicago Public Schools (CPS) chief is expected to plead guilty in a multimillion-dollar bribery scheme that sent more than $23 million no-bid contract to her former employer, SUPES Academy. An email uncovered that Gary Solomon, the owner of SUPES Academy with ties to the Emanuel administration, “assured Byrd-Bennett that trust accounts had been set up in the names of two of her young relatives, each funded with tens of thousands of dollars.” Solomon, 47, and co-owner Thomas Vranas, 34, also were criminally charged in the 23-count indictment, as was SUPES, their Wilmette-based business, and Synesi Associates, another education consulting company the two ran. NORTHERN ARIZONA
A deadly shooting on Northern Arizona University’s Flagstaff campus near Mountain View Hall dorm, has resulted in one person dead and three others wounded but the suspected shooter is in custody. [ABC NEWS]
LYFT
Though its main rival Uber offers its own car leasing service, Lyft has partnered with Hertz to allow its drivers to rent cars on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. They’ve also brokered a tiered deal with Shell that gives drivers discounts on gas the more rides they gave to customers. [WIRED]
NOBEL PEACE PRIZE
Tunisia’s National Dialogue Quartet comprised of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA), the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH), and the Tunisian Order of Lawyers won this year’s Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for their role in helping to build democracy in the birthplace of the Arab Spring. The Tunisian groups, the committee said, made a “decisive contribution to the building of a pluralistic democracy in Tunisia in the wake of the Jasmine Revolution of 2011.” [WASHINGTON POST]

The Chicago based startup announced they’ve raised $1.5M in seed funding with participation from investors including Rob Chesney, the chief operating officer of Trunk Club; Genevieve Thiers, founder of SitterCity, and the team behind DreamIt Ventures. They have also launched their first exclusive designer collaboration of bridesmaid dresses with designer Kelly Faetanini called Altar Ego for fall 2016. Brideside, the e-commerce site founded in 2012 and recently opened a studio, provides concierge like service to wedding parties. [WWD]
