Several retailers are shunning Apple Pay and banding together to create their own. CurrentC is the new smartphone payment system from a consortium of retailers, including Best Buy, WalMart, Target and Sears, all hurting from poor sales. The system has already been hacked, before it’s even launched. [USA TODAY]

WORLD NEWS

A petition denouncing the comments of an HSBC Holdings board member in which she likened Hong Kong protesters’ demands for democracy to the emancipation of slaves, has gained about 6,000 online signatures. Laura Cha,a member of HSBC’s Conduct and Values Committee, said in a statement that she meant every country’s path to democracy was evolved in its own historical context. She added she did not mean any disrespect and was sorry her comments had caused concern. [REUTERS]
