Voter ID laws in Wisconsin and Texas were blocked by the Supreme Court, clearing the way for hundreds of thousands of voters in both states to have easier access to the polls during midterm elections.
The Supreme Court’s ruling came down as a district court in Texas found that state’s similar voter identification law discriminated against black and Latino voters, violating the Voting Rights Act.[TIME]

WORLD NEWS

Malala Yousafzai becomes the youngest Nobel Peace Prize recipient. The Pakistani teenager shot by the Taliban after campaigning for girls’ education will share the award with Indian children’s rights activist Kailash Satyarthi. By bestowing the prize on Mr. Satyarthi and Ms. Yousafzai, the Nobel committee sought to draw attention to violations of children’s rights and the persistence of child labor, especially in the developing world. Florida State is under investigation by the federal government and the school just released a letter to supporters explaining its response after quarterback Jameis Winston was accused of a Decemer 2012 sexual assault. The letter outlines FSU’s response under Title IX, a federal law which requires schools to investigate and adjudicate cases of sexual violence. [USA TODAY]

Medical device maker Medtronic, after acquiring Ireland’s Covidien for nearly $43 billion, has established its leadership plans. The world’s fourth largest medical device company makes pacemakers and insulin pumps. [BLOOMBERG]
