Rachel Dolezal, the Spokane, WA chapter leader of the NAACP(an African-American civil rights organization) has been misrepresenting herself as black and it all came into light after her complaints into racially charged threats against her. Dolezal’s parents, Ruthanne and Larry Dolezal claimed she is deceiving people and she indeed is Caucasian, who married and later divorced a black man. The twitter population known as “black twitter” was on fire last night at this news. [USA TODAY]

• Stanford University President John L. Hennessy, who joined in 1977 as an assistant professor of electrical engineering, will step down in 2016 after more than 15 years. [BLOOMBERG]


WORLD NEWS

A Malaysian Airlines jet with 300 passengers onboard made an emergency landing in Melbourne on Friday afternoon after reports of an engine fire. the plane first dumped its fuel, then made an emergency landing at Melbourne Airport around 3:00pm. You will remember Malasian Airlines lost two aircraft five months apart back in 2014. [TIME]

• A year long investigation into the tapping of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s cell phone by the U.S. has been dropped due to a lack of evidence that would stand up in court. The two countries have been at odds over the NSA spying habits since Snowden’s revelations last year showed the United States had listened in on many of its allies, including Merkel. Maybe that’s what they were discussing in this picture. Speaking of, citing no progress and that major differences remained in key issues, IMF has pulled out of bailout talks with Greece, sending Greeces’ shares to plummet. [TELEGRAPH]

Golden State Warriors beat the Cavs 103-82 to tie up the series. Many allude the loss to the fact that Lebron James didn’t play the entire game due to a gash on his head, that required few stitches, when he collided with a camera. Following news that Twitter CEO Dick Costolo is set to step down July 1 and co-founder Jack Dorsey is stepping back in as CEO on an interim basis a la Steve Jobs, shares for the new media company rose up 3.6% to $37.17. The “company’s slow user growth and inability to attract advertisers at the same rate as its competitors” has been a struggle for twitter and its investors.
