EVENT: And Still We Rise: African American Music through the Ages
ABOUT: The concert, which includes a multi-cultural repertoire that reflects the Baha’i belief in the unity of humanity, will feature the Baha’i House of Worship Choir, led by Van Gilmer, and the Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Philip Simmons. The Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra will perform with the choir as well as contribute orchestral compositions by African American composers, including the jazz music of Edward “Duke” Ellington.

EVENT: DURO OLOWU EXHIBITION @ MCA
ABOUT: Nigerian-born British designer Duro Olowu is internationally recognized for his womenswear label launched in 2004. Olowu turns his cosmopolitan eye to Chicago. Drawing from the city’s public and private art collections including works in the MCA’s collection, Olowu curates a show that reimagines relationships between artists and objects across time, media, and geography. The exhibition is organized with MCA Manilow Senior Curator Naomi Beckwith and is presented in the Griffin Galleries of Art.
