The scoop: Merit School of Music honored two of its most distinguished alumni, brothers Demarre and Anthony McGill, their parents, Ira Carol and Demarre McGill were presented with the Alice S. Pfaelzer Award for Distinguished Service to the Arts. Corporate leader Northern Trust Corporation received the Merit School of Music’s 2016 Corporate Leadership Award which was accepted by Chairman and CEO, Frederick H. Waddell. Honorary co-chairs for the evening were Judy Istock and Richard L. Thomas.
Event: Adler Planetarium’s Women in Space Science Award Celebration

The scoop: President of the Women’s Board, Linda Gerstman, Erika Lautman Bartelstein-Chair of the Women in Space Science Award Celebration along with Co-Chair Pamela Pohl, welcomed about 350 guests for a reception, luncheon and keynote presentation given by this year’s honoree, Wendy L. Freedman Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics at University of Chicago. The highlight of the event was the student program immediately following the luncheon held at the Adler. Approximately 250 young women from Chicago-area schools, enjoyed an inspiring talk and Q&A opportunity with Wendy L. Freedman and an afternoon of engaging STEM workshops with Adler educators and volunteers.
