Wednesday night (10/15) at Gallery 1028 the Herradura Barrel Art competition awarded artist Jason Hawk the first place prize and $10,000 in the second annual “Barrel Art Collection.”
Tequila Herradura, one of Mexico’s most historic and renowned ultra-premium tequilas, invited selected artists to create original art pieces using Tequila Herradura’s oak barrels as their medium. Artists in Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and San Francisco will vie for the 1st place prize of $10,000; 2nd place prize of $3,000; and 3rd place of $1,000 in their respective markets.
The Chicago artists, 10 in total, presented their final barrel artwork in an exhibition dedicated to arts and culture.
A panel of judges, which included Monique Meloche, last year’s winner Adam Toth, Bucketfeet’s Raaja Nemani and Bolaji selected the Chicago winners by judging each art piece based on originality, creativity, quality and the inclusion of elements and values that represent Tequila Herradura.
2nd Place went to Jordan Waraksa and third place to Pamela Staker.
The evening culminated with a party where guests had the opportunity to view the artwork and take in the herradura Tequila.
Herradura’s commitment will be furthered with their donation of $70,000 to Creative Capital, an organization that supports innovative and adventurous artists nationwide through funding, counsel and career development services.
