• The highly anticipated Chicago Fire Festival was a complete dud. Three houses styled after the buildings during the Chicago Fire were to be set ablaze on the Chicago river to reveal three different symbols of the city. Organizers hoped this would be a cultural festival meant to rival events such as Mardi Gras in New Orleans and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York. “there seemed to be a surprising lack of planning pervading the entire event. fter nearly 30 minutes passed in silence that none of the organizers had a backup plan in case of a Grand Spectacle malfunction. • A four year old brought heroin to a daycare center and started to pass it out to other classmates. The child’s mother, 30-year-old Ashley Tull from Selbyville, Del. is charged with maintaining a drug property and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. A total of 249 bags of heroin weighing 3.735 grams was located in the backpack, the child thought the packets were candy and began passing them out to other students. [FOX NEWS]

• The 2014 Nobel Prize for Physics went to the inventors of “a new energy-efficient and environment-friendly light source, leading to the creation of modern LED light bulbs.” Isamu Akasaki and Hiroshi Amano of Japan and Japanese-born U.S. citizen Shuji Nakamura. The laureates join list of recipients such as Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr and the husband and wife team of Pierre and Marie Curie. [REUTERS]

• Tagged as the Etsy for Flowers, Bloomnation has raised $5.5 million in Series A funding from Andreessen Horowitz and Spark Capital among others. Bloomnation allows customers to send unique one-of-a-kind flower arrangements from local florists across the country. Their 3,000 florists list pictures of their own creations, rather than designs created from templates. Their competitors are Teleflora & 1-800 Flowers. In 2012 the company placed 3rd in University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business New Venture Challenge. [FORBES]

• Stephen Collins who played clean cut pastor dad on the show 7th Heaven, confessed to molesting and exposing himself to at least three young girls over several years. During therpay session with his ex-wife who secretly recorded it. Collins told his wife he exposed himself to an underage New York girl a relative of his first wife, when she was 11, 12 and 13 years old; one of those times, he molested her. [NY DAILY NEWS]

• First Lady Michelle Obama will make a major announcement on Wednesday, during a White House Design event, that is geared to providing more of a direct career path for students interested in design, fashion and art to drive the economy.
