Grafing, near Munich, Germany. A man was killed and three people were injured in a knife attack at a German train station early this morning. Though early reports indicated that it might be Islamic extremist motivated, officials are so far saying that’s not the case and the 27-year-old assailant may have had psychological problems and drug issues.  Read more

• Rodrigo Duterte, the guy who joked about rape, is the Philippines’ newly elected president. The president-elect, crime-fighting mayor of Davao with more than 6 million votes ahead of the second-placed candidate, won over voters with promises to crush crime and corruption. Mr. Duterte’s lack of a clear economic plan has caused unease among some business leaders because under the current president, Benigno Aquino III, the Philippine economy grew by an average 6.2% per year.

• Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry returned to Game 4 last night against the Portalnd TrailBlazers after being sidelined by an ankle and knee injury and he without a doubt demonstrated why he will be unanimously named the NBA’s regular season MVP for the second time. The game last night went into overtime which saw Curry score 17 points, the most any player has ever scored in an NBA overtime, regular season or postseason. Just to make sure you knew, after sinking in a 3-point shot, he mouthed to the camera “I’M BACK.” Final score was 132-125.

• In thanks Capt. obvious news, a report by the New York Times and the Kaiser Family Foundation stated Chicago is “deeply divided” by “race, class and neighborhood.” Residents of Chicago, with the sharpest levels of discontent among black residents on the South and West Sides, appear to have lost faith in many of its essential institutions, including the police, courts and the public schools. Though it shouldn’t have taken a study to confirm the obvious, the real question is can it be mended? When one northside resident and biz owner posts on her Facebook the city is in shambles because Neiman Marcus was robbed of several pricey handbags and another laments at the multiple senseless killings on their blocks, they are living 2 worlds apart. Perhaps if you attend an On the Table event tonight, talking about viable solutions to these problems might be a start.

ENTERTAINMENT

• The Zac Brown Band and Usher performed at the The Robin Hood Foundation’s 2016 Benefit. The organization, dedicated to fighting poverty in New York City, raised about $61 million at its annual fundraiser though in 2015 they raised $101 million. Oprah, Katie Couric, Citadel’s Ken Griffin, Goldman Sachs’ Lloyd Blankfein, investor Bill Ackman, Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedin, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, comedian Jim Gaffigan and fooundation founder Paul Tudor Jones. According to Bloomberg, the daylong event dubbed “Night for NYC” culminated in a benefit dinner at the Javits Center in Manhattan on Monday.

• Rihanna, through her Clara Lionel Foundation, is offering $5,000 to $50,000 scholarships for highly motivated students residing in Barbados, Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Guyana, Jamaica and the United States, on a need basis. On the scholarship the singer/actress said “Higher education will help provide perspective, opportunities, and learning to a group of kids who really deserve it. I am thrilled to be able to do this.”

FASHION

• FIT, the Fashion Institute of Technology, honored designer Dennis Basso, an alumnus of the school with Designer of the Year Award, along with John and Laura Pomerantz (Patrons of the Year), and QVC (Retailer of the Year) at its annual gala held at The Plaza hotel’s grand ballroom. Attendees included Nicky Hilton and her husband James Rothschild, Paris and Barron Hilton, QVC’s Renee Greenstein, Denise Rich, Jill Martin, June Ambrose. W magazine’s editor-in-chief, Stefano Tonchi served as honorary chair.
