People magazine’s ‘Most Beautiful’ person of 2013 Gwyneth Paltrow  added another accolade which has included an Academy Award, SAG, Golden Globe & Emmy, when she was honored and presented with the Gene Siskel Film Center of the School of Art Institute Chicago’s Renaissance Award. Each year the Siskel Film c’s annual benefit honors an outstanding film performer with past recipients including Jamie Foxx, Reese Witherspoon.
A Summer Soirée with Gwyneth Paltrow, co-chaired by Eda Davidman and Melissa Sage Fadim, was held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. The evening began with a cocktail reception and a VIP reception where Ms. Paltrow also had the opportunity to speak with several media outlets in attendance and also graciously posed for pictures with the Siskel Film Center family under the watchful eye of power publicist Stephen Huvane.

The VIP reception included guests such as Richard and Ellen Sandor-who are major philanthropic supporters of the arts here in Chicago, Averill Leviton, Michael and Roopa Weber, David Hundley, the late Gene Siskel’s kids Will, Callie, Kate Siskel and their mom Marlene Iglitzen, Rich Varnes, Margaret MacLean, BMO Harris’ David Martin, Tatyana Demchencko, Marlon Scott, Jaime Bronstein, Barry Missner, Jamey Fadim, Dr. Walter and Shirley Massey and many more.

Guests were then escorted to the the grand ballroom for dinner which was themed after several of Gwyneth’s movies, and the rest of the evening’s program. Ellen Sandor, a valiant, dedicated champion of SAIC who has for the past 10 years led the Gene Siskel Film Center’s Advisory Board as Chair was honored with an award recognizing her outstanding service to the film center.
The evening also honored Roger Ebert and his legacy and contribution to movies and film.  Susan and Robert Downey Jr’s hilarious video tribute also livened the evening. Guests in attendance were kept abreast of the Blackhawks game score by Ms. Davidman, which sadly was a loss in overtime.

Following dinner, Amanda de Cadenet-host of ‘The Conversation’ on Lifetime and youngest woman to shoot a Vogue cover, welcomed Gwyneth on stage and the candid conversation began. Through the evening  between the film clips and Gwyneth’s responses, you really couldn’t help but love her even more. Her responses were eloquent, candid and honest and when she was presented with her Renaissance award thanked the institution .

Although this was a fantastic party, it was most importantly a benefit to raise funds for the Gene Siskel film center headed by Jean de St. Aubin, which brings to Chicago excellent international, classic and up and coming films. Supporters and sponsors such as the Richard and Ellen Sandor Foundation, Maclean-Fogg, Redbox, Sage Foundation BMO Harris bank, Averill & Bernard Leviton, Allstate, The Missner Group, and many more helped make the evening possible.
