The Costume Council of the Chicago History Museum invites you to a special presentation by fashion director, consultant, media personality and author Hal Rubenstein as he discusses his new book Dressing the Part: Television’s Most Stylish Shows (October 2023). In a conversation with Fern Mallis, the former executive director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (1991–2001) and founder of what is now New York Fashion Week, Rubenstein will explore television’s lasting impact on fashion culture and the closets of everyday Americans. From the 1950s to today, guests will learn the surprising ways our favorite shows like Gossip Girl, Soul Train, Friends, Sex and The City, Golden Girls and more have significantly reflected and often shaped the way we dress. Tickets include a luncheon and a signed copy of Dressing the Part. If you are fan of fashion and looking to hear more about the behind the scenes of how television shaped fashion in our lives, this is a great event to attend. TICKETS
