The CFDA Awards will happen in New York City tonight Monday June 2 and we here at SociaLifeChicago are oh so proud of Shane Gabier & Christopher Peters for being nominated!!!! They have made a Chicago founded fashion design label lauded and loved worldwide and their collections keeps getting better.
The are nominated in the ‘SWAROVSKI AWARD FOR WOMENSWEAR’ category along with Rosie Assoulin and Wes Gordon (who also has Chicago ties).

We would hope other in the city share our enthusiasm as New Yorkers do for NY based designers such as Alexander Wang, Dao-Yi & Maxwell of Public School etc. It seems in Chicago we tend to not celebrate our own enough and we should more often(seriously? what’s the deal with that?).
To give you an an idea of the gravity and how big of a deal the CFDA awards is, this year Tom Ford is receiving the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, Marc Jacobs, Alexanger Wang, Joseph Altuzarra are nominated for womenswear, Raf Simons is receiving the International award and Bethann Hardison who has been a tireless advocate for diversity in fashion and modeling will also be honored.

Last year Dao-Yi Chow & Maxwell Osborne of Public School won the Swarovski award for Menswear and this year they are nominated for the menswear category and have received some major funding. Prabal Gurung was the 2011 Swarovski Womenswear winner, so you get the idea. We hope Creatures of The Wind wins.
Regardless of Monday’s outcome they are winners in our eyes and we will continue to root for Creatures of The Wind!!! Shane & Christopher are not only creating fashion and part of the next generation of fashion designers here in the states, they are also shaping the next gen of fashion designers as instructors at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago.
Let’s take a look back at some of their past collections.
