Art Basel is going to Asia!!!
The first Hong Kong edition of the world’s premier art show for modern and contemporary works,will include 245 of the world’s leading galleries. **UPDATED** Chicago will be represented by Kavi Gupta Gallery, Rhona Hoffman and Richard Gray gallery. Though there aren’t Chicago galleries listed thus far, several US based galleries will be going overseas to show.
The show will be divvied into 4 sectors: Galleries, Insights, Discoveries and Encounters.
Galleries will present 171 Modern and contemporary art galleries. It will feature a strong presence by Modern art galleries from Asia and the West including and emphasizing on significant work from the past 100 years providing an opportunity for visitors to discover and explore contemporary and historical art from different regions, cultures and aesthetic backgrounds.
Insights will present curatorial projects developed by galleries specifically for the show and will exclusively feature galleries from Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.
Discoveries will provide a dedicated platform for emerging contemporary artists from across the world. Galleries will primarily show completely new work and special commissions for the show, featuring one or two young artists from their gallery program.
Encounters will be dedicated to presenting large-scale sculpture and installation works by leading artists from around the world.
Art Basel Hong Kong, whose lead sponsor is Deutsche Bank, will take place from Thursday May 23 to Sunday, May 26, 2013
