UP & COMING FASHION DESIGNERS TO KEEP ON YOUR RADAR-PART 1

Fashion, like any wealth producing industry will continue to have it’s mainstays like Chanel, Balenciaga, Oscar de La Renta, Saint Laurent etc, but in this age of startups, innovators and game changers we want to let you know about the new faces rising through the fashion design world.

We liken ourselves as the next generation in lifestyle publishing, so it’s only right to highlight those we feel are the next generation new crop of fashion designers that you may not have heard of yet but you most definitely need to keep on your radar. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler founded their company in 2002 and have expanded globally since, Michael Kors launched his eponymous line in 1981 and has now gone on to be a publicly traded company; J.W Anderson recently got an extra boost of funding from LVMH.

These  Up & Coming Fashion Designers and Labels are the next generation of powerhouses and are going to be major soon so know about them now.

STELLA JEAN

She won Vogue Italia’s Who’s On Next talent contest in 2011 has had her dresses sell out on MatchesFashion as soon as they went live  for the past two seasons. Most recently She designs ethnic pieces true to her Haitian and Italian heritage.

The up and coming in the contemporary market label is not necessarily new(it’s well regarded in native in Korea and China) but it is new to the United States. Barneys has recently picked up pieces from their line to . The line’s silhouettes skew classic with unexpected color combos and fabrics keep things intriguing

A label with quirky French design trio Virginie Muys and sisters Déborah and Priscilla Royer. They are shaking up the world of knitwear with their innovative designs and laid back Parisian street chic while and bringing back 90s style.

Hood by Air A$Ap Rocky

Shane Olivier has been garnering a lot of attention lately for his structured wear preferred by performers such as A$AP Rocky, Drake to name a few. “It was more of a concept at first…of his outrageously inventive clothing line Hood By Air, which began in 2006 with a set of droll graphic t-shirts. “

MAKI OH

Nigeria-based womenswear label designed by Maki Osakwe whose “clothes mash up African and Western references.” Her first collection debut in 2010. Her adire prints are hand dyed in the traditional Nigerian way.

 

HUISHAN ZHANG

Huishan Zhang

Is London’s hottest new up and coming designer. Huishan Zhang, a native of China and graduate of Central Saint Martins is known for his beautifully embellished gowns and recent winner of the Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize. He’s spent a year working at Christian Dior. Some of the designers he admires are Yohji Yamamoto, Prada, and Alaia.
The inspiration for his Sp/Su ’14 line was Madame Vionnet’s draping technique and its links to Chinese ancient mathematics.

is truly that geek chic that designs for the. his most recent collection he described as “inspired by computer glitches and the futuristic biomes of The Eden Project”
“The “Steven Tai” woman is still a bit of a geek, but she feels very comfortable in her skin and persona. There is a confidence and relaxed attitude towards who she is. She is humourous and is able to laugh at herself.”
