Supreme Is Opening A Chicago Store

The rumors are true, the New York based brand is setting up shop in the city of wind and we couldn’t be happier. Supreme will count Chicago its fifth US, fifteenth global location as it opens to the public on Thursday November 10. The new 1800 square foot space in Chicago’s Wicker Park will stock many of the items the clothing and skateboard lifestyle brand is known for.

For the Chicago opening, guests have been instructed on how to reserve times to come and shop. I was told moving forward post opening/drop day it will be first come first served for the merchandise available in store. The Chicago Supreme store will carry an array of the products beloved by the brand’s influential follower. Apparel like sweatshirts, t-shirts, sweaters will b available for purchase as well as accessories, bags and skateboards.

The Supreme Chicago storefront will feature a mural by fine artist Rita Ackermann covering its north
facing wall. Inside, art installations include longtime Supreme friend and collaborator Mark
Gonzales’ Schminx sculpture in metallic gold finish and with a hand paintedface welcomes guests, alongside a tile mosaic by SLUTO.
A full wall LED monitor anchors the space and showcases Supreme’s extensive film archive, and two benches in a nod to Chicago’s skate scene.

Supreme opened its first storefront in 1994 on Lafayette Street in downtown Manhattan and its grown beyond the skate culture that served as and continues to serve as its founding root. Supreme has been the pulse of culture on what’s in what’s hot and what’s to come. Skaters, punks, hip-hop heads – the young counter culture at large – all gravitated toward Supreme. It has grown in 25 to serve a global community with stores on both US coasts, Paris, Milan, Shibuya, Berlin to name a few. James Jebbia founded the brand in 1994 and then around October 2017, it was announced that private equity firm The Carlyle Group acquired a 50% stake in the company. In 2020, VF Corporation announced its acquisition of the company in whole from Jebbia and Carlyle and Goode Partners LLC, for a reported US$2.1 billion with Jebbia still staying on.
