EVENT:TURN IT UP FOR CHANGE (SLC PICK OF THE WEEK)

What: TURN IT UP FOR CHANGE is a fundraising and awareness initiative in the fight for nationwide LGBT equality, put forth by W Hotels in partnership with Jennifer Hudson and the Human Rights Campaign.

Time: 9 p.m. – 12 a.m
Cost: Space is limited. Public tickets are first come, first serve on the night of the event.
WHY: Grammy® and Academy Award® winner Jennifer Hudson; DJ White Shadow; Legendary Damon; Trannika Rex; Terry White; Shea Coulee; Precious Jewel. TURN IT UP FOR CHANGE launched in October 2014 and combines W’s longstanding support of the LGBT community with its ongoing passion for music. In partnership with HRC and Jennifer Hudson, W hopes to bring about real and lasting change for LGBT Americans in all 50 states.

EVENT:Woody’s Winter Warm Up

What: Wood Family Foundation & Kerry Wood will kick off the 2015 Cubs Convention weekend with the annual Woody’s Winter Warm-Up fundraiser.
Where: 7th Inning Stretch Restaurant and the Chicago Sports Museum

When: Friday January 16, 2015
Time: 8:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
Cost: General Admission Ticket: $125
WHY: Emceed by WTMX radio personalities Eric Ferguson and Kathy Hart; musical performances by Chicago’s very own Plain White T’s and DJ Matt Roan. The evening also includes live music, raffles, premium dinner buffet, drinks, silent auction, and a live auction including the ultimate Cubs experience

EVENT: GLOBAL LEADERS LUNCHEON: ANNUAL ECONOMIC OUTLOOK

What:  The Executive Club of Chicago’s annual panel of financial thought leaders for a lively debate.
Where: Hyatt Regency Chicago

When: Wednesday January 14, 2015
Time: Registration and Networking: 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. | Program: 12:00 – 1:45 p.m.
Cost:  Member: $100 | Non Member: $150 |Registration will close three business days prior to the program
Why: The Executives’ Club of Chicago annual economic outlook panel moderated by Terry Savage featuring: Dr. David Kelly, Managing Director & Chief Global Strategist, JPMorgan Funds; Diane Swonk, Chief Economist & Senior Managing Director, Mesirow Financial; Dr. Bob Froehlich, Director, American Realty Capital; Chairman & CEO, Kane County Cougars.

EVENT: Kruger Gallery Chicago “Victims & Villains” Exhibit reception

What: A brand new exhibition titled “Victims & Villains,” a solo exhibition of new works by Chicago-based artist Heather Green

WHY: Kruger Gallery Chicago represents emerging artists working in a variety of media and design. Victims and Villains explores two bodies of work. The first body of work is based on the mug shot. The second body of work, #yesallwomen, scrutinizes rape culture, specifically looking at the Steubenville rape case of 2012 and the subsequent conviction of Trent Mays and Ma’lik Richmond in 2013.

EVENT: Heineken Red Star Access presents Hypnotic Brass Ensemble’s Southside Music Series with special guest De La Soul

What: Hypnotic Brass Ensemble employ climatic orchestration and contagious musical riffs to find a common area between hip hop, experimental jazz, and funk.

WHY:  In 2011 Prince invited Hypnotic Brass Ensemble to perform with him at Malahide Castle in Dublin. For their Southside Music Series at the Promontory Hypnotic will be bringing in some of their friends and collaborators from around the globe to sit in for featured guest spots. The premiere guest artists are the legendary De La Soul.

EVENT: CSO Overture Council’s Night at the Movies

What: The Overture Council’s First Annual Night at the Movies: An Offer You Can’t Refuse

What: Kavi Gupta Chicago’s first solo exhibition with New York based artist Mickalene Thomas.
