Mental Illness, for those who live with it cope on a day to day basis, those who do not often times correlates it with a negative connotation and insults. No one asks or prays to be born with mental illness, it happens but in a world filled with stigma, definition of what normal is and socio-economic disparity, is it’s often hard to cope without help or a strong support system. NAMI, The National Alliance on Mental Illness’s mission is “building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.” They raise money, form advocacy groups and offer support systems.

Recently I met an amazingly humble lady by the name of Michi Marshall. Though she is most known as the wife of Chicago Bears’ Brandon Marshall, Michi is someone that gives her time selflessly and works to make a difference in people’s lives through her different volunteering and non-profit commitments. As some of you may know, her husband was diagnosed about 2 years ago with borderline personality disorder so this cause hits home for her in more ways.  This year she is putting together a team and they are walking at the upcoming NAMI WALKS 2013 and you can help contribute to her goal by clicking HERE TO DONATE.

NAMIWalks Chicago 2013 is  a FREE 5k Walk for Mental Health will take place Saturday September 21 from 3pm.

There are many disorders that fall under the mental illness umbrella. Your neighbor, co-worker, family member, spouse, parent, best friend, grandparent probably suffers from some type of mental illness. Here at SociaLifeChicago we believe in philanthropy and reaching back to give back and we hope as you read this you will consider this great cause and donate.
