ART BASEL

I am so excited to be attending Art Basel Miami Beach this week!! If you are not familiar, Art Basel is the premier US congregation of Artists, Gallerist, Curators, art lovers and epic parties. I’ve had it on my radar for the past 5 years but somehow the stars aligned and I couldn’t be happier. I am excited to take it all in.
I thought about doing a what to do, how to prepare type post for Art Basel but with comprehensive lists from PAPERMAG, NYTIMES, THE DAILY TRUFFLE, GUEST OF A GUEST, I figured it would be best to just take it all in.  Chicago will be well represented by galleries such as: Valerie Carberry Gallery, Richard Gray Gallery, Kavi Gupta Gallery and Rhona Hoffman Gallery. Theaster Gates whom I had the pleasure of meeting at the Burberry event last week will be feted at 2 receptions, Naomi Beckwith of MCA will also be down there. Columbia College hosts an alumni as well The School of Art Institute Chicago. David Jude Greene is showing today bummed I will miss it. RSVP gallery‘s hosting an in store with Don C.  According to a piece by Shia Kapos last year, ” several high-profile art lovers attending the Florida event are Johnson Publishing’s Linda Johnson Rice, Encyclopaedia Britannica President Jorge Aguilar Cauz; and Christine Ott, a vice president at J.P. Morgan, Marianne and Goran Strokirk, Jan Melk and her daughter, Cindy Melk, Holly Hunt, Margaret O’Connor, Les Coney,Juanita Jordan, Janet Duchossois.” Whoa!

Miami gallery Locust Projects (3852 North Miami Avenue, Miami) is presenting a big installation byTheaster Gates called “Soul Manufacturing Corporation” that will be up December 3 – 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. For the work, Gates plans to “create a factory consisting of four pavilions occupied by skilled makers who will produce ‘things’ throughout the week.”
Other shows on my itinerary to catch are: The Lost Beatles and The Lost Rolling Stones Photographs at the Betsy hotel, Robert Lazzarini’s window (broken-in), “Counterparts” by Phil Stern and Robert Zuckerman, Robert Indiana’s RUM RUN.
The parties are as legendary as the art and hopefully I can attend a couple.
I will be keeping up with my posting schedule at the Architectural Digest AD Oasis @ The Raleigh.
Any tips for me? what parties should attend? where should I eat?
