Whenever “cupid shuffle” comes on, it doesn’t matter where you are, you instantly see people pop up like whack-a-moles making a beeline for the dance floor and Friday night in the Winter Garden at Harold Washington Library was no exception.

The Junior Board of Chicago Library Foundation hosted their sold out Night in The Stacks event Friday April 8 raising $170,000 that will go towards supporting the Library Foundation and innovative learning programs at Chicago Public Library.

The evening themed “Made in Chicago” celebrated all(most) things Made in Chicago from mini Chicago hot dogs, Garrett’s popcorn, neighborhood themed food stations, a Chicago theatre marquee replica to name a few.

Guests in attendance, most of them up and coming/young professionals had more than food and open bar to keep them entertained throughout the evening. Smilebooth photo booth, silent auction items on display, make your own candy station and of course DJ Konsept who made sure the party was, as they say, lit?. From old school Michael Jackson classics to new Beyonce, Kanye, he played it all and guests filed in and out of the dance floor when they weren’t resting their feet.

It was great to see Chicago Public Library Commissioner and chief executive officer Brian Bannon as well as Chairman of Chicago Public Library Foundation, Linda Johnson Rice in attendance. With a group that consists of young next gen professionals, being acknowledged and getting face time is one of the things they value so having them show when they could be anywhere else on a Friday shows commitment to the organizations vision and also that they value the junior board as more than just partying young folks but they actually help contribute to their fundrasing goals and ambassadors of the Library and Library Foundation.

Kudos to the organizers that enlisted couches for guests to sit, and didn’t have to fight for. The one thing about events , that aren’t sit down dinner, is that you get carried away on the dance floor wearing 5″ heels and then when its time to rest, you find yourself leaning onto a tall boy with foot that’s in pain, the couch option is one way to leave a memorable moment for guests. The turnout was great, drinks were plentiful and seeing Chicago’s finest young professionals come out in support of one of Chicago’s best civic institutions was good to see.
